"Chief Cook and Bottle Washer" isn't a title so much as an admission — around here, whoever sees the job gets it done, and that's usually him. The habits are small-town through and through: shows up early, keeps his word, still knows most people by their truck before their name. The numbers behind the scenes don't always match that description, and he prefers it that way.
Two uniforms, one habit of leading
He served in the U.S. Army, the kind of chapter that resets what you think you can carry. Before that, he was the guy the team looked to when the game was on the line — a Most Valuable Player in the way that actually matters: making the four other guys on the floor better. Different jerseys, same instinct. He has spent a career leading from the front ever since.
A long-running love of things that grow slowly
The Garden Beds
Herbs and vegetables, planted and re-planted every season — not for show, just because pulling weeds and watching something come up out of the dirt is still the best part of most days.
The Trees
A love of trees that goes back further than he can date it. He'll notice the old ones on a property before he notices the house, and he's never met a sapling he didn't want to see grow up.
The only golf pro who leaves it better than he found it
A certified golf pro, and the rare one who actually stops to fix his divots — his own and whoever played through before him. It's the same instinct as the garden and the trees, just wearing spikes: take care of the ground, and it takes care of the next round.
